Are my donations tax deductible?
CitizenGO Foundation is a non-profit organization based in the European Union (Spain). As a charitable organization that works for the public good, donations made to CitizenGO Foundation may be tax deductible if you live in Spain, Poland, France, Belgium, or Luxembourg.
According to the tax experts consulted by the European Foundation Center (EFC) and the Transnational Giving Europe (TGE) network (see study on “ Taxation of cross-border philanthropy in Europe after Persche and Stauffer - From landlock to free movement?”), such countries have implemented the European Union Law nondiscrimination rule for the application of tax benefits to cross-border donations (see Chapter 5.1, page 28 of the study).
This means that if you live in one of these countries, your donation to CitizenGO Foundation (a public-benefit organization based in Spain) could entitle you to request a tax deduction in your income tax, in accordance with the laws of your country.
Important note for donors in Germany: Although EU nondiscrimination rules may in principle allow tax deductions for cross-border donations, CitizenGO Foundation is not currently registered in the German Zuwendungsempfängerregister (the official register of eligible charitable organizations maintained by the German tax authorities). This means that, in practice, donations to CitizenGO are not eligible for a tax deduction in Germany at this time. We value your support and want to be upfront about this. If the situation changes in the future, we will update this page accordingly.
Please, also note that CitizenGO is not tax-exempt in other countries because we are registered in Spain.
